How to train for HYROX?

Runista Coaches and athletes have tested different methods to improve and perform in Hyrox races.
There is a different path - the method we use lets us achieve the following in May 2024:

  • Hyrox Taiwan - Male Pro - Overall Winner
  • Hyrox Taiwan - Open Women - AG 40-44 Winner
  • Hyrox Taiwan - Open Men - AG 50-54 Second

We can now share this method and provide Hyrox customized training plans to beginners or advanced athletes who are not sure how to prepare for their journey to Hyrox competitions.

The approach Running, Conditioning, Strength, Skills

We have naturally started to approach Hyrox performance and training by a repetition of mini hyrox races 2 / 3 times per week. The result was the same for pro and open athletes :

  1. overtraining,
  2. generating too much fatigue,
  3. minimal or non-existent progress

Hyrox stations require sometimes very intense efforts and sometimes excessive fatigue in the nervous system, making repetition ineffective.

Method & Application 1 example

The event known to be the most difficult, wall ball - is not going to be prepared by repeating wall balls every training session.
On the other hand, the muscles and motor elements of the wall ball will be worked in a segmented manner, increasing the strength and resistance of the legs: squats, box jumps, lunges etc.

Romain is a French Health and Performance Coach based in Hua Hin, Thailand.

He works daily with dozens of athletes based in Asia on rehab, strength training and online coaching from beginners to Elite trailers and triathletes.

He drive 3 Hyrox trainings with a group of athletes, organize Hyrox training camps.

He also compet in Trail, duathlon, Ironman, and won HYROX Taiwan Male Pro in May 2024.

Hyrox Method by Runista Adrienne - Open Women - AG 40-44 Winner

Adrienne is a hybrid athlete, she trains with Romain and performs in running, on Spartan obstacle races, and regularly follows HYROX classes led by Coach Romain.

She uses the Runista method and proudly won HYROX Taiwan in the open women's 40-44 category in 1h22'00”, in May 2024.
